The Dead of Franklin
More than 1,400 Southern soldiers killed in the battle of Franklin are buried in McGavock Cemetery on the grounds of Carnton Plantation.

The Carter House
The Carter House was in the middle of Union lines during the Battle of Franklin, Tenn. Capt. Tod Carter, who grew up in the house, was mortally wounded nearby. His father found him on the field and brought him back to die in his own bed.

Let Us Die Like Men
The backyard of the Carter House, where four Union guns were placed, adding to the carnage of the Battle of Franklin, Tenn., five of the bloodiest hours of the war. More Rebels were killed here than in Picketts Charge, including six generals.

Scars of War
These outbuildings of the Carter farm, situated on the Columbia Pike and in the midst of Union lines, still bear the scars of the Battle of Franklin, Tenn. They are the most battle-damaged buildings still standing in the country.
